Hello!! Welcome to the Rice Health Advisors page, where we tell you what being a Rice Health Advisor is all about, when/why you should come see us and, if you so choose, how you can join our team!
Rice Health Advisors are undergraduate students from each college who aim to positively impact Rice students’ mental, emotional, and physical well-being. We will achieve this by providing peer support for social/lifestyle concerns, as well as by educating students on prevalent health issues. We work in close collaboration with the Rice Counseling and Wellness Centers and receive on-going training by professionals. We act with respect and integrity. Our members will act as a dedicated first responders within their residential college by working with peers, RAs, Masters, and College Coordinators to create a dependable support network. Rice Health Advisors: We care about your mental and physical health.
The Rice Health Advisors are the product of the merger between Health Reps (first aid, physical health), CAPP (mental health), and SOAR (students organized against rape). The merging of these peer support groups makes student access to resources for wellness concerns much easier.
First and foremost, Rice Health Advisors (RHA’s) solely exist as a resource for YOU! Please please please utilize us! Come to us with any problems you may have, big or small! Talk to us about alcohol use, sex, STD’s, drugs, living with a roommate, sexuality, long distance relationships, relationships at Rice or any other topic about which you may be curious. Basically, we’re here to help you through any issues you may run into being a college student.
Health Advisors are available at each college for most non-emergency wellness issues. Come give us a visit (if we’re on campus) or send an E-mail. This includes first aid, mild illness, mental issues (such as stress, depression, suicide), and sexual health (contraception, resources, etc). For emergencies, call RUPD at x6000.
To become a Health Advisor, you must first submit an application to take the Health Advisor class (UNIV 250). After approval, prospective Health Advisors will receive training throughout the semester in the course and become official Health Advisors in the following semester.
