The Will Rice Elections Committee is responsible for holding elections for Will Rice College. Election petitions must be completed and returned to an elections committee chair before a name can appear on a ballot.
Election Committee Chairs are responsible for the following duties:
-Keeping track of when elections will occur
-Making petitions available when elections occur.
-Promoting elections and publicizing voting days. (giant posters and commons announcements recommended)
-Running an eligibility check (usually done through the Masters) on candidates as stated in the Constitution or By-Laws
-Disqualify candidates who violate election rules
-Making and copying preferential ballots
-Encouraging Will Ricers to vote on election day
-Making a signature page to ensure each member of Will Rice votes only once.
-(if applicable) Ensuring OC voters get a free meal to help vote.
-Collecting votes
-Counting votes as prescribed by the Constituion/By Laws
-Submitting the election results to the current president to announce.
The Chairs may enlist the help of Committee members to assist in the above duties.
The following is the timetable for elections used in the 2009-2010 school year:
2nd Week Fall Semester - Petitions Due for OC Rep
5th Week Fall Semester - New Student Rep Elected
3rd Week Spring Semester - President, O-Week Coordinators, Spring College Night Coordinators Elected
4th Week - Vice President(s), Secretary(s), Treasurer, Chief Justice Elected
6th Week - Committee Chairs (Programming, Legacy, Socials, Facilities), At Large Reps (2 elected), SA Senator, RPC Rep, U Court Rep, Honor Council Rep Elected
Before end of semester or at start of next semester - Fall College Night Coordinators Elected
